Book launched in aid of ReachOut.com

December 21st, 2011

Clair Swinburne, Elaine Geraghty, students from Loreto Secondary school in Bray. On Wednesday 4 December Clair Swinburne, a secondary school teacher from Gorey, launched her new book “So What Do You Think? A Guide for the Teenage Mind”.

The book
The book is geared towards Irish teenagers in an attempt to help promote their mental health and proceeds will be donated to ReachOut.com. It offers young adults real insights into how to look after your mental health. It includes a practical section that clearly outlines 10 techniques and strategies that can be easily implemented straight away.

The Launch

The launch was held in Dubray books bookshop in Bray where the book was endorsed by Clair’s students from Loreto Secondary School Bray. The principal of the school and our own CEO Elaine Geraghty also spoke at the event.
Clair Swinburne told us about her new book and why she decided to donate the proceeds to ReachOut.com.

Power of your own thoughts
I have always been extremely passionate about the pastoral care of young people. Although there is great work being done to eliminate the negative associations surrounding mental health, there is still limited guidance out there on actually how to go about looking after your mind and preventing mental health issues. The book examines the true power of your thoughts but at a deeper level then you’ve probably ever realised or understood before.

Interest in mental health
A lot of the feedback I am getting from people is that “this book is not just for teenagers” so I advise anyone with an interest in looking after their mental health to have a read and especially parents who are intending to buy it for their teens. Tackling some of the strategies together with your teenage son or daughter could prove hugely beneficial!

Why donate the proceeds to ReachOut.com?
ReachOut.com is a very worthwhile service and aims to help young people look after their mental health by de-mystifying mental health and explaining things in everyday language. “So What Do You Think?: A Guide for the Teenage Mind” is also about helping young people look after their mental health and explains things in a simple and practical way. The two complement each other in that way.
This book is the first in the So What …? book series and deals with the first most important step in looking after your mind and awareness of what you’re doing when you’re doing it. There will be more books in the series so keep an eye out!
The book is for sale in most local bookstores so call into your local bookshop and ask for it. It is also available online from http://clairswinburne.com and Amazon.com.
